I studied for my Diploma in Professional Studies – Counselling with the University of the West of England.
During my studies I worked in practice on placement initially with PositiveStep, an NHS service in Worle near Weston Super Mare.
Here the client base was wide with a variety of issues being presented.
This work was done on a short-term basis with each client receiving up to 6 weekly sessions.
My second year placement was with the charity Kinergy in Kingswood, Bristol. Kinergy specialize in providing free one to one counselling for those who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, sexual violence and/or rape.
This work is delivered on a longer-term basis with each client receiving up to 24 sessions.
Since qualifying I have continued my volunteer counselling with Kinergy as I find it to be challenging but also incredibly emotionally rewarding work.
